Japanese Washi Chigiri-e (Hari-e) Handmade Shikishi Art – Golden-rayed Lily
Chigiri-e (also known as Hari-e) is a traditional Japanese art form in which handmade washi paper is carefully torn by hand and layered onto a backing board (shikishi) to create a collage. The texture and translucency of washi give each piece a warm, one-of-a-kind character that cannot be replicated by printing or painting.
This piece depicts a Golden-rayed Lily (Yamayuri), one of Japan's most beloved wildflowers, rendered in the delicate, tactile style unique to chigiri-e. The interplay of torn paper edges and layered colors brings the subject to life with a gentle, handcrafted quality.
